Project Healing Waters
By Clinton Carpenter

Project Healing Waters program is moving forward at a pace as fast as the 15 volunteers can handle. We have 10 fishing trips planned for the JBVAC through the end of the year. Two of the trips are to Westover Trout Farms which will cost us $1300.

We are working on getting the money necessary to take 10 vets. One program is a two man guided trip to Lake Tannycomo. We are selling tickets now and will draw the winner the end of June. Tickets are $3 or 4 for $10. The other trip is to Pere Marquette ,a guided 1 day trip for two men. We would like to auction this one off to the club members. We ask the starting bid to be $300.00 and will progress from that bid. I have Healing Waters hats for a donation of $20.I can also get other fly fishing equipment as required at prices we can discuss. We accept any and all donations to help this program. All club members should know this program has reflected in a positive manner on the Ozark fly fishers club.

Some of the Vets we help really need the one on one time our Volunteers give them. Those of you that participate in other club programs know the good feeling of your participants. Remember the feeling you have after the program is over. TO GIVE IS GREAT.TO GIVE WITHOUT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING IN RETURN IS GREATER.

Stream Team #31 Current River Water Quality Monitoring
Outing and Barbeque

July 10, 2010
9:00 a.m.
Montauk State Park (at the Old Pavilion)

Missouri Stream Team – What’s it all about? What is its intended purpose? How do I get involved and what is expected of me? And just what is it those people do in the water with all those test tubes and stuff?

Some of our Ozark brothers and sisters are affiliated with this program and know the answers to these questions. You will too if you choose to attend the monitoring outing. Ozark Fly Fishers will be privileged to have Mark Van Patten (co-founder of Stream Team) as well as other staff members on hand to help with the monitoring. These professionals will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Stream Team. This is an opportunity to ask questions no matter how specific, detailed, basic, or advanced.

For those who recently completed their introductory level training, this event will provide a great refresher course. For that matter, it will be beneficial for any level, including persons who are not yet trained.

It is important to note that if you are an Ozark Fly Fisher, then you are considered a member of Team #31 regardless of your training or lack thereof. Our team is always willing to help to the best of our knowledge. Everyone is welcome to come and help out. This is a great way to meet members that you may not already know.

We will be focusing on macroinvertebrates in the morning and then break for lunch around noon. We will be returning to the stream after lunch so anyone interested in the other monitoring activities may come back to watch or help out with those activities or you are free to head off and fish.

Now, about lunch! Our club is providing the barbeque luncheon. Again, this will give you the opportunity to meet and mingle with other club members.

If you plan to attend, please contact Scott Darrough at 314-560-1335 or at swdarrough@yahoo.com. In order for us to get a head count for food, please try to respond by July 3rd.

Hope to see you there – we always have a good time!

Warm Water Outing
Saturday, June 12th

If you have been wanting to do some warm water fishing, if you have been wanting to use your float tubes, and dare I say it, if you have been waiting for an outing in the great state of Illinois ~~ this is the outing for you. Washington County State Recreation Area is the place. It is located about an hour’s drive Southwest of St. Louis in Nashville, IL. We will delight at the possibilities of catching largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, channel catfish and carp. Boat and motor (10 hp limit) rental is available. They have a boat ramp if you wish to bring your own boat. You may also use their boats with your trolling motor. We have permission to use float tubes as long as we wear a PFD. There is also an area that would be suitable to fish from the bank.

To learn more about the area their website is: http://dnr.state.il.us/LANDS/Landmgt/parks/r4/washco.htm

You can get an Illinois fishing license by the day at the concession stand or if you would like to purchase a license over the internet, please visit: https://www4.wildlifelicense.com/il/start.php

I would like to meet at 8:00am by the boat ramp. I will have coffee and doughnuts. Let me know if you can attend and if you will need a boat so that I can be sure to have enough reserved. If we will have enough in attendance to warrant it, I can also reserve a pavilion for lunch. Let me know. Mark Thalhammer, 636-928-6242, mthammer@swbell.net

Taneycomo Outing
Septemer 16-18, 2010 [depart on September 19th]

It was great, great, great, last year and this year will be even greater!

It was so great last year I was told I would be hung with my own fly line if it wasn’t a do again this year. Don’t miss out on this year’s outing; it is going to be bigger and better. Taneycomo Lake, located in Branson Missouri, is one of the top tailwaters in the country. Please join us on a three day outing -- you will have a chance to fish for a state-record trout. A big hit last year was a Friday night talk by a local guide and a BBQ lunch at the pavilion by the damn on Saturday -- both are definite do agains.

We will once again stay at centrally located Lilleys’ Landing, 367 River Lane, Branson, MO, phone 1-888-Lilleys. If you need info on the area, Phil Lilley has a great forum full of information about Taney and all of the other fisheries in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas…… http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/

Lilleys’ offers several room layouts that you can see at: http://lilleyslanding.com Of the rooms we reserved the following are still available: #10, 11, 13 and 14 with nightly rates of $59-$79 plus tax. A one hundred dollar deposit will hold your room with the balance due by August 1st. Please act quickly and get your deposit in the mail. As of today, Lilleys’ only had three rooms that weren’t booked and I would like to fill them with OFF members.

Call or email us regarding availability and further details: Mark or Jo Thalhammer, 27 Morning Wind Ct., St. Charles, MO 63304, ph. 636-928-6242 email: mthammer@swbell.ne
